A girl with black hair in a ponytail and bangs. She is wearing round glasses with thin frames, a navy blue scarf and a white sweater. She is dancing with someone who has their back to the camera. Behind there are glimpses of other people and light colored walls.

The rights perspective

All our work at ShareMusic & Performing Arts is based on human rights and the equal value of all people. In particular, the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

The UN human rights conventions describe what rights we have and those who govern are obliged to ensure that what the conventions say is respected. The UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities has been in force in Sweden since 2009. It states that:

"States Parties shall take appropriate measures to enable persons with disabilities to have the opportunity to develop and utilize their creative, artistic and intellectual potential, not only for their own benefit, but also for the enrichment of society"

(Article 30, paragraph 2)

This means that all states that have signed the Convention must ensure that people with disabilities have the opportunity to develop creatively, artistically and intellectually. Not just because it's good for you, but because it's good for society as a whole.

Our work is also clearly tied to Agenda 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals on inclusion and sustainable development. This is particularly the case for Goal 4: Quality Education, Goal 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, Goal 10: Reduced Inequalities, and Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals.
